Web Accessibility: Beginning

Hands-on course - incorporating Section 508 and WCAG Guidelines - designed for people who want to incorporate accessibility techniques into websites, and increase usability and interoperability of web based materials. From adding alt tags to enabling users to resize the on-screen text, the techniques covered in this class will produce smarter and faster sites with smaller file sizes and easier maintenance.

Prerequisites: Familiarity with HTML.

 

Web Accessibility: Advanced

Taking web accessibility to the next level. In this hands-on course you will learn how to build accessible data tables and forms, publish accessible PDFs and making audio and video files fully compliant with Section 508 guidelines.

Prerequisites: Web Accessibility (Beginning).

 

Web Authoring: Using Cascading Style Sheets

Control fonts, background colors, hyperlinks, margins and other
page elements; lay out a Web page using CSS. Learn to create
CSS navigational menus for Web pages.

Prerequisites: ITSC 2024 Intermediate World Wide Web Authoring and X/HTML.

Making PDFs Accessible

Explore the new Adobe Acrobat and learn how to properly mark-up Adobe Portable Document Format pages with accessible code, allowing PDFs to be used by many assistive technologies.

 

Accessible Multimedia: Captioning Video

Captioning digital media is a necessary step to ensure the accessibility of multimedia presentations delivered over the World Wide Web. MAGpie is a tool that can assist Web content authors with the creation of captioned multimedia for their Web pages. Participants in this training will have the opportunity to transcribe multimedia clips, synchronize the transcriptions with the multimedia presentations using MAGpie, and link the captioned content to a Web page.

 

Testing for Web Accessibility

There are many tools available to assist you in testing web pages and web sites for accessibility. None of these software tools can do the whole job and determine that your page or site is accessible. This course will discuss the power of the tools - what can and cannot be tested - and provide an overview of a number of software testing tools.
